The Deafness Council welcome the announcement by the Premier that the government had “made the decision to pride open captions for future COVID-19 television advertisements related to public health or emergency information”.
The government are to be congratulated on this initiative.
Whilst government press conferences that involve COVID-19 issue are supported by Auslan interpreters and the closed captions provided by the broadcaster, to date the public health and emergency information advertisements have had no interpreting or captioning support.
This decision now means that all Western Australians can receive these important messages.
