Dr Harry Blackmore Award 2017 Nominations

Since 1998 the Deafness Council WA have presented an award during Hearing Awareness Week, the first being to Kevin Campbell from Channel 7 for his involvement in the introduction of live captioning for the channel 7 news.

The Award is named after Dr Harry Blackmore, a life member of Deafness Council WA Inc, in recognition of his work over many years in advancing the interests of Deaf and hearing impaired people.

The Award is given in recognition of the contribution made by an individual or organisation that has enhanced the quality of life of people who are Deaf or hearing impaired or who have raised the level of awareness in the broader community of issues that affect Deaf and hearing impaired people.

Previous winners of the Award include;

  • 2016 Mavis Fisher for her dedication in promoting the educational needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and for providing support and guidance to parents
  • 2015 John Richards for his outstanding contribution to the education of Deaf and hearing impaired students
  • 2014 Stewart Carter for his involvement in the very successful Student Development Camp
  • 2013 Anne Jeavons for her outstanding commitment to people in the Deaf and hard of hearing community

Nominations for the Award are now open and will close on July 31st.
